Best CBD Oil for Anxiety and Depression: What’s CBD Oil?
CBD is the shortened name for a cannabinoid found in the cannabis and hemp plants. The full name is Cannabidiol – pronounced Ca-Na-Bi-Di-Ol.
It is one of over 400 known chemical compounds that naturally occur in the cannabis and hemp plant. The CBD is extracted and then mixed with a carrier oil (usually hemp or coconut oil) to create CBD oil.
You can take it in many forms – smoke it, vape it, put a drop under your tongue, take it in capsule form, use oral sprays, use a topical cream, eat it as part of a treat, and the list goes on…
CBD is not psychoactive and you won’t feel “high” when you take it, unlike its counterpart Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). Pure CBD will also not show up in a drug test, in case you’re worried about anything like that!
A Short History
The use of medical marijuana has been mentioned in Egyptian ancient texts dating back to 1550BC.
It wasn’t until1940 that Roger Adams was able to isolate CBD from the cannabis plant, even though he wasn’t really sure at that stage what it was that he had found. It was only in 1963 that Professor Raphael Mechoulam uncovered the chemical structure of CBD, and has since become known as the Godfather of CBD and THC.
Dr. Walter S. Loewe was the first person to conduct a CBD test on lab animals, back in 1946, and reported that no significant change in behavior was detectable in mice as compared to its counterpart THC.
Since those discoveries, the CBD and medical marijuana industries have made tremendous growth with almost all states in the U. S, and many countries worldwide, now having passed legislation on the legalization of these products.
As the stigma surrounding CBD starts to disappear, you will start to come across more and more CBD based products such as CBD oil, CBD water, CBD lotions, CBD tablets, etc. Even though scientific research is scarce, all of these products are used to effectively treat conditions such as anxiety, pain, insomnia, epilepsy, depression, inflammation, to name but a few!
The Legality Matter
The legality of CBD in the USA is in a grey area at the moment.
As long as your CBD product does NOT contain THC, it falls outside of the scope of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency Controlled Substances act. This makes the product legal to sell and to consume.
Should your CBD be extracted from a cannabis plant that does contain other substances, and it contains less than 0.3% THC, it may be illegal on the federal level, but could be legal under state law… So confusing, if you ask me.
As a CBD company, you are obviously also not allowed to make any unproven health claims about the substance. This prevents people who have a real medical need from not getting the necessary treatment they actually need.
If you’re living in the U.K. CBD is also completely legal IF it has been taken from a hemp strain that is EU-approved and they contain very little (no more than 0.2%) to no THC at all.
There is one exception though, as a product called Sativex (containing 50/50 mixture of CBD and THC) has been approved and legalized in the UK as a treatment for multiple sclerosis.
Specialist clinicians are also allowed to prescribe medicine derived from other cannabis products, since November 2018.
CBD oil may also be perfectly legal in any other country in the world. South Africa, for instance, has legalized Marijuana for private use since March 2017, thus making all CBD products legal.

Using CBD Oil for Anxiety
Although research around using CBD oil for anxiety and other mental or emotional health-related issues are still far and few, and with most done on animals, the studies that have been done highlights much positivity and many benefits regarding using CBD for anxiety.
CBD interacts with your body’s endocannabinoid system and specifically impacts the brain’s CB1 receptors.
These are the same receptors that most anxiety medications interact with as well.
So, you get the benefit of modern medication, but without the nasty side effects that accompany many of them.
The substance is able to combine with your serotonin receptors (specifically 5-HT1A), the same receptors that are also targeted by SSRI’s. CBD boosts the signals to these receptors, increasing the transmission of 5-HT1A, and helps to affect mood faster and safer than traditional SSRI’s.

CBD modulates the actions of endocannabinoids produced naturally in your body and it also helps to enhance the activity of receptors to which serotonin binds. When this happens, you will experience the calming and relaxing effects of this treatment.
Depression is not only a chemical imbalance in your brain. When people suffer from depression, a certain region of the brain can start to deteriorate and even shrink! This area is the hippocampus or the area that is responsible for memory, learning, and emotions. Medication is then taken to help rebuild this part of the brain, hence some depression medication could take weeks before you feel it starting to work – healing takes time.
What CBD does is it actually protects and helps to regenerate all the neurons in the hippocampus, as seen with evidence derived from both human and animal research.

It is recommended to start off with a fairly low dosage and then slowly building up to higher dosages over the span of a few weeks. It is most effective when you use it regularly in specifically maintained dosages.
You should start feeling the effects and improvements brought on by CBD after about 90 minutes of ingesting the compound.
For acute flare-ups, you can vaporize CBD for quicker relief, but the maintenance dosages should still be continued.
CBD is not psychoactive or addictive in any way.

Things to look out for when you buy your CBD oil
#1. Do Proper Research!
Our number one tip may seem like an “Obvious Bob”, but you will be surprised how many people fall for scammy advertising and “quick fix” promises.
Remember that CBD is not regulated by the government and it is your duty to yourself to do proper research – for your own health’s sake.
Do proper research on the company you are buying from – what do other customers say, is it a reputable company, etc.
Check out their social media accounts, ask for information pamphlets, 3rd party lab reports (this is important), or speak to the distributors directly and make sure that they answer your questions satisfactory.
If you are unable to contact the company directly, AnxietyPanda suggests that you look for another company to buy from.
Check the labels to make sure of the ingredients, the amount of CBD or THC (remember, less than 0.3%) in the product, and how much CBD is contained in the actual dose. This will help with determining the correct dose for your lifestyle.
Don’t believe any bogus claims of miracle cures either. CBD will not cure your cancer, reverse your Alzheimers, or make your wrinkles disappear overnight.
#2. Affordability Doesn’t Equal Quality
There are certain brands that are available for a low cost and they proudly advertise that their CBD is extracted from the seed and the stem of the hemp plant… What they do not tell you is that CBD is not present in hemp seed at all and the stem contains very little, if any CBD.
CBD can be taken as gummy sweets – don’t buy the gummies that are made with corn syrup or artificial colors.
Avoid products labeled “pure CBD” or “no THC”. You want to choose “full spectrum” (including the legal amount of 0.3% THC or less) or “broad spectrum” (contains no THC).
You also want to avoid isolated or distilled products. There’s not much goodness left in those and if extraction is not done properly, you may end up with a product containing much higher levels of THC or other substances than advertised.
When it comes to the extraction method, be on the lookout for products that were extracted using CO2 extraction. It is the most expensive of the extraction methods, however, you will be assured of high quality, pure, and safe CBD oil. The next best thing to this is Olive Oil or Cold Pressed extraction, but the yields are incredibly low.
Absolutely avoid any products that were extracted using Dry Ice extraction or Solvent-based extraction. You will receive low quality and potentially dangerous (think lighter fluid) CBD oil.
