Positive affirmations for Anxiety – What are they?
Dictionary.com defines an affirmation as follows:
When you’re anxious or depressed, your negative thoughts and habits become your truth and existence. But it is important to realize that these ugly things are not who you are and that you are deserving and capable of so much more.
It is possible to retrain your thought patterns by using positive affirmations so that these positive thoughts will become your new truth and will in turn also lead to positive actions and improvement in every sector of your life.
You’re gonna have to be willing to give it some time. This is not an overnight “cure” at all. Remember, this is possibly years worth of baggage and old negative thought and behavior patterns that need to be broken down and rebuilt with more solid and positive structures. Just hang in there. It will be WORTH the time and effort, you’ll see.
How do I do it?
There are many free resources available online for examples of affirmations. You can also even make your own! (Remember to write in the present tense and not to use negative words such as “don’t”, “can’t”, or “won’t”.) It is recommended to rewrite and say your affirmations on a daily basis and preferably a couple of times, two to three times per day.
Focus only on one or two at a time. Write it on a sticky note and stick it to a mirror. Look yourself in the eye and gently hold your throat as you say your affirmations out loud or in your head, but preferably out loud. You hold your throat because it is your energy center and this will help to empower your affirmations.
Take note of how you’re feeling when you do your affirmations. It may feel very awkward and uncomfortable at first. Your mind might want to resist as it is being pushed out of its negative comfort zone. Don’t give in, just continue and carry on regardless. These uncomfortable feelings will soon turn into comfort and bliss. Don’t worry.
AnxietyPanda’s Collection of Positive Affirmations for Anxiety
“I AM WILLING TO CHANGE” This one is super important, for with hesitation or if you are not entirely ready or willing to change, no change can happen. There must be no resistance in you. You have to WANT this.
“I FORGIVE MYSELF AND SET MYSELF FREE” This is one powerful affirmation given to us by Louise Haye, the author of motivating self-help books such as “You can Heal Your Life”. It is important to forgive yourself. This will allow you to live more freely and free of self-inflicted guilt, anger or resentment. Forgiving yourself does not mean you are weak.
“I LOVE MYSELF AND WHO I AM” Hand in hand with forgiving yourself, comes loving yourself! It’s not important what the world thinks of you. You have to love yourself for who you are and the ones who truly matter and care about you will follow suit.
“I ALLOW ONLY HEALTHY AND LOVING RELATIONSHIPS INTO MY LIFE” Part of self-love and respect is that you don’t have to spend your precious time and thoughts and energy on anybody who makes you feel less worthy or unloved as a person. Don’t allow these people to drain your spirit for their own motives. You deserve better.
“MY THOUGHTS ARE FILLED WITH POSITIVITY AND MY LIFE IS PLENTIFUL WITH PROSPERITY” A bit of a mouth full but still a very powerful and necessary affirmation and thought pattern to have. This one is given to us by Dr. Carmen Harra.
