Positive affirmations for Anxiety – What are they?

Dictionary.com defines an affirmation as follows:

Definition of Affirmation

When you’re anxious or depressed, your negative thoughts and habits become your truth and existence.
This is when it is important to realize that these ugly things are not who you are and that you are deserving and capable of so much more.

It is possible to retrain your thought patterns by using positive affirmations so that these positive thoughts will become your new truth and will in turn also lead to positive actions and improvement in every sector of your life.

You’re gonna have to be willing to give it some time.
This is not an overnight “cure” at all.

Remember, this is possibly years worth of baggage and old negative thought and behavior patterns that need to be broken down and rebuilt with more solid and positive structures.
Just hang in there.
It will be WORTH the time and effort, you’ll see.

How do I do it?

There are many free resources available online for examples of affirmations.
You can also even make your own! (Remember to write in the present tense and not to use negative words such as “don’t”, “can’t”, or “won’t”.)

Mini Guide to Affirmations

Rewrite and say your affirmations out loud on a daily basis and preferably a number of times, two to three times per day.

Focus only on one or two at affirmations at a time.
Write them on a sticky note and stick it to a mirror.

Look yourself in the eye and gently hold your throat as you say your affirmations out loud or in your head, but preferably out loud.
You hold your throat because it is your energy center and this will help to empower your affirmations.

Take note of how you’re feeling when you do your affirmations.
It may feel very awkward and uncomfortable at first.
Your mind might want to resist you as it is being pushed out of its negative comfort zone.
Don’t give in, just continue and carry on regardless.
These uncomfortable feelings will soon turn into comfort and bliss.
Don’t worry, you’ll see.
