    I was searching on google for what the advantages of online therapy are because I have a lot of anxiety as a single introverted mother. I find it really hard to go to the public playground with my son and see other parents ( mostly moms in cliques with each other ) and their kids. My son is very friendly, outgoing and I feel the exact opposite. I do not want to engage in conversations or even have my son play with other kids because that means, me as a mom needs to stand by an observe ( my son is a little under two years old ) and that means being somewhat social with the other paretns. I can’t deal with that. For some reason its really crippling being around other mommies and babies. At birthday parties I just hide the entire time. My son has a blast but I just act like I am engrossed in my phone and I always make an excuse to leave early. At the library, when I come and I see that the childrens area is having a “story time” and there are loads of children and parents, I immediately turn around and go the other way – because I came to the library for *quiet time* with my son, I didn’t think they would be throwing a story time party for peets sake! 

    But you see this is a big problem and I need someone to talk to about it. I need someone to help walk me through why am I tripping in the first place, and help me navigate through my fears and issues so I can be a better mommy. I know that being introverted is one thing, but my anti-social ( and overtly shy and nervous ) type of personality is going to hinder my son from making friendships with other kids. Other kids involve their parents so therefore I must be an involved parent too. I feel so terrible about my inability to be a decent, basic social mother that I just beat myself up. 

    Can online therapy help me? I can’t do traditional therapy because I don’t have a car for one, and like you said, its really hard to get to the appointment in the first place. My son is very hyper and won’t sit still at the office and he doesn’t have a person to watch him while i go to a therapy appointment. I wonder if online therapy is within my budget? Also, I have a child who is a little under two years old and he definitely doesn’t give me the luxury of being able to sit down and focus on “sections” and do worksheets, you know what I mean? My son takes one nap a day which is the only me time I get. The nap can be anywhere from one to three hours ( if I am lucky ) and I am hoping that in this time I can shower, eat something and then squeeze in an online therapy session maybe 30 to 45 minutes and end it with maybe…. a breathing excersize but Yoga? I ain’t got the time for all of that…. my son won’t even let me brush my teeth without trying to pull the TP all out!

You must try to not let others get you down and be proud of yourself for being a single mom who gives all your time and attention to your child. It’s wonderful that you recognize the effects that your behavior may have on your son. 

      AnxietyPanda thinks that seeking any form therapy, whether online or not, will benefit you, but the fact that you are receiving the therapy will also benefit your son at the end of the day. He needs to socialise with other children and is at an age where mimicking often happens. If he observes your behavior around other parents, he may  grow up displaying the same reactions.

    Psychotherapy online or otherwise – online counseling is currently very common. The Internet provides many opportunities to meet in a secure format. Of course, meeting a client with a therapist on the web is a special genre, with its own advantages and disadvantages.

    My comments will complement the limitations. Similar therapy is not indicated for suicidal thoughts and intentions. 

    These cases are treated only internally and possibly in the hospital.Psychoses are not treatable online. Medication therapy is indicated.Panic attacks are generally very difficult to psychotherapeutic treatment. Additional drug treatment is needed.Severe depression can only be treated internally and also with medication.

    This is great information. I usually suffer from depression, hasn’t been diagnosed but I’m sure that I have some type of condition because I feel like need to sleep a lot and not interact with people. At work, I try my best to not show that to my students because obviously I don’t want them to get that from me.

    thanks for this for post, your site/blog is very interesting. I agree that onlinetherapies have some bonuses – cheaper, you can get any therapist you like, it iscomfortable because you are at your home. It sometimes feels nice just to talkto some friend on skype or anywhere online, so although it is from a distanceit can have an impact. Nonetheless, there are persons who need a real hug andshould be put in a ’real’confersation. Also, if there are the ones who want toface for example – the anxiety of communication or speaking in crowd, publicand similar, they wound’t solve problem like this, I think. Maybe they would bemore confident, but for such problems, the only solution is to get out and facethe fears.

    I totally agree that these online therapies could help them relax, to be morepositive, happier.

    It also deppends on the personality – someone would choose therapy through technology (online),and someone in person. Either way, I think people should try it – anything thatcan get them step forward is worth it.

    I was in therapy for years, and it is just like you say in this article people stop going because of the outside influences in just getting to the appointment.  That is why I stopped going and because the therapist I had moved away have not found another therapist to this day and that was 6 years ago.

    Connecting with your therapist is very important for your well being when you cannot find one that you are able to connect with then the alternative is you quit going, I know I did.

    This has not helped with any of my issues and honestly enjoying life is difficult because I do not get the help I need.  I had no clue that they offered therapy online and this is something I am going to be checking into.

So much cheaper than the walk-in that I attended few months ago due to post-traumatic stress – all work related. But luckily I have recovered and move on with my life.     I am very much into talking therapy as this is what I do.  I am a Life Coach so I see the value in what you are offering.

    I also do believe that this is the way forward and very much needed in today’s world.  With the increase of social media, which creates it’s own challenges. Also with the increase of technologies and the way many people communicate today.

    In my experience a lot of people just want to be heard and listened to. And as simple as this may sound this simple act can help to cure many stressors in so many peoples lives.

    I would add that I feel a combination of online, skyp and telephone would have a stronger pull on clients because some people just need to talk.

    My wife suffers from serious anxiety.  It just hits her with no warning and then for a short period of time things go really bad.  She is on medication and it does seem to help.  However we both hate some of the side effects of the meds.  Of course she wouldn’t go off her meds without permission from her Dr, however this option almost looks like a dream come true.  I was just wondering.  I didn’t read anywhere that maybe medical benefits could cover some of the cost.  That would be an answer I am looking for before committing.  Thank you in advance.

    I absolutely love what you have written on online-therapy, having a counseling background in working with people online. I would say it’s a benefit to both parties, as neither has to leave their place of living. Especially for someone who already suffers anxiety. 

    People with anxiety start making assumptions even before they get to the therapist. At  least when they are at home, they won’t feel the need to think of what’s going to them on the way there. 

    By cutting out that much, a whole lot of anxiety is saved. Plus people are sometimes more comfortable in their own setting which then leads them being comfortable following the therapy.

    Hi, Am not at all surprised that there are online Therapy Sessions available,  and think, after reading this article that it sounds that for a lot of people this would be the answer. Many are not able to open up about their problems, face to face, so would feel more comfortable talking online. 

    As, mentioned in this article, there are many ways of contacting the Therapist you have chosen to work with and it will just be a matter of finding which method suits you and the Therapist.

    There are people who live in far flung villages who need therapy and as the internet is now available practically world-wide, having Online Therapists is a perfect solution for them.

    I haven’t experience in online Therapy but can definitely understand the benefits.

    Thank you for talking about on-line therapy programs, I’ve never really given it any thought but I have seen it advertised lately.  You mention in your article that it can be cheaper than traditional therapy, but what about insurance, does insurance cover on-line therapy?  Because I know that with insurance my sessions are pretty inexpensive.

Best is to verify with your insurance company directly, as each have their own set of rules. I do know that a small amount of insurance companies may not cover the cost if the online therapist is not in the same area as you, and others do.

    This is a great post! I have personally worked with an online coach and it has helped me a lot. My main reason was that I felt like I have to work with this coach in particular and she was living in London and I wasn’t. Thanks to technology, distance was not an issue. 

    I’ve been trying to get my mom to get onboard as well. She works so much and sometimes she finds herself too tired to go to therapy and she doesn’t show up. An online solution like this would be great for her!

    I think there is merit in this.  We are living in times where technology and online communication is becoming the norm.

    I believe that online therapy for less severe problems is fantastic although right now we do have privacy issues, data breaches etc. going on all the time.  If I were in need, I still would go in person until the issues of privacy are dealt with.

    Although I’m not an expert in this field, or even remotely qualified to comment on mental health, I do see the suffering it causes and have had recent instances within my own family.

    You touched on a very valid point for a lot of sufferers, and that is the stress and will power required to actually go and physically meet a councellor at their office. Especially as most councellors seem to still prefer city centre locations where you can’t park and have to hustle on public transport.

    Although not for everybody, I do see the benefit of online therapy for treatment.

    In my point of view, if you think too much-> will worry-> worry too much-> anxiety-> need anxiety therapies.

    And I agree with you that CBT – Cognitive Behavior Therapies can help to manage the anxiety, but for the PSTD, I’m not sure.

    Since I see some PTSD cases are really serious…Therefore, I don’t think the online therapy is suitable for the PTSD. I know one therapy can help with the PTSD. It calls Psycho-drama (with 4 stages), and sometimes, the therapist might use the hypnosis method for help. (If the Internet is lagging…it might…)

    I have a question. Why they count in weekly based? I see the price is counted by week. It means one session equal one week in the normal calendar-> Do I misunderstand?

So, it’s recommended to first consult with a face-to-face doctor to establish if online therapy will help for your specific conditions. More severe cases always need to be handled in a more intense manner, so your point on severe PTSD treatment is absolutely valid. Thank you for providing us with the opportunity to clear that up 🙂

      Regarding the weekly fee: 

      You will receive one 30 minute live chat session with your therapist per normal weekday calendar week (this excludes the weekend) BUT you have unlimited access to your therapist via the instant messaging system during weekdays (Mon-Fri), they reply within 24 hours. You also have unlimited access to your worksheets and sections 24/7, regardless of the day of the week, but will only receive feedback from your therapist on those during week days and also within 24 hours. 

      So, they show weekly, because you would usually pay a face-to-face professional per session, which is normally once per week and at a much higher rate than what they are charging. And this for only say 1hours access to the professional.
